MOSCONE CONVENTION CENTER EXPANSION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
FBA was the structural subconsultant responsible for the CB-3 Ballroom and Meeting Room rooftop addition to the existing Moscone Convention Center facilities. This addition incorporated 56,000 square feet of ballroom/meeting space, 8,000 square feet of administrative offices, 27,000 square feet of lobby space, 17,000 square feet of mechanical floor, and a 3,500 square foot pantry area. The architectural design of the ballroom exterior has exposed trusses while the lobby and mechanical support is a stepped-back design. Precast cladding was incorporated in the exterior treatment of the structure. The structural system of the ballroom/meeting room consists of steel moment resisting frames with paired columns each side resting on the existing arches. The lobby/support structure consists of steel-braced frames with columns primarily located on existing walls below.
