OAKLAND CITY HALL REPAIR
OAKLAND, CA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The historic Oakland City Hall was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta Seismic Event, the clock tower suffering the most damage. The repair project included the installation of steel-braced frames to strengthen the clock tower and a base isolation of steel-braced frames to strengthen the clock tower and a base isolation system. The base isolation system was utilized to lower the forces transmitted to the building in future seismic events and thereby protect the historic fabrique of this 18-story structure. Turner Construction was the selected construction management firm responsible for overseeing the construction. Faye Bernstein & Associates, as subconsultant to Turner, performed constructability reviews and provided a full-time assistant superintendent for the construction.
