DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH HEADQUARTERS SAN FRANCISCO, CA PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The San Francisco Department of Public Health Headquarters is a four-story landmark structure which is currently being upgraded as part of the City of San Francisco Phase II seismic safety program. The structure is currently utilized as an administration office and an HIV lab and clinic. It is a designated as an essential facility to be functional after a major seismic event. Phase I of the project's scope of services included the seismic evaluation and study of three upgrade systems: concrete, steel and base isolation. Also included in Phase I were the cost of interruption and life cycle costs. The project progresses through schematics, construction documents, and construction administration. The joint venture team of Faye Bernstein & Associates/T.Y. Lin International is the prime consultant for this project. UCSF MILLBERRY UNION SAN FRANCISCO, CA PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The University of California San Francisco engaged Dahlin Group Architects and Planners to modernize its existing student union (Millberry Union). The project included the rehabilitation of the swimming pool area and gym, the addition of several squash courts, and the modernization of other areas. Faye Bernstein & Associates, structural engineers on the project, modified this six-story concrete structure for the addition of new floor slabs and new floor openings. The structure was also strengthened laterally to accommodate added weight and new openings in existing shear walls.
