BIG BEAR LAKE DAM BRIDGE
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Big Bear Lake Dam Bridge is a 350-foot-wide bridge on a horizontal tangent alignment. The span lengths are 13 feet, 10 at 32 feet each, and 17 feet. The bridge consists of reinforced concrete counter-fort piers and open-end diaphragm abutments. The entire bridge is supported on the dam structure. FBA's scope of work included seismic analysis and retrofit strategy for the as-built bridge structure.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
FBA was responsible for the development of a recommended seismic upgrade to the foundation and substructure tower elements of this bridge. The unique structural improvement scheme proposed to prestress the existing tower to the foundation caissons. FBA proposed a minimal addition of concrete to the interior of the tower walls with the addition of several concrete diaphragms.
